Big Dry takes toll on Australia’s farmers
Australia faces a critical water shortage these days. Farmers who live in basin use irrigation water from the Murray River. But farmers here have suffered a double blow: a chronic shortfall of rainfall and the shutting off of vital irrigation water.
The government actually took away water from the farmers and provides it to town’s people. But farmers provide people crops and live stocks which human’s basic need. Already there are few farmers quit to maintain their farm. If this movement heat up in Australia, they have to concern both water and food shortage.
It easy to quit farming, but restarting farm is 20 times harder than to live in town. The government needs to hurry to find a way to coexist with cooperating local constitution.
